What you don’t know can and will hurt you, and what you cannot find on the internet absolutely has an impact on your life as a recruiter or sourcer.
In 2014 it was estimated that Google had indexed about 4% of the internet.
Today most experts readily agree that it is impossible to know how much the internet Google has indexed since the actual size of the internet is unknown, but it has been said that there is more than five trillion megabytes of data stored on countless servers, computers and drives. Of this five million terabytes only about 200 terabytes can be indexed by web search. That’s 0.004%. This 0.004% of the internet is accessible to the public in the form of over 4.5 billion indexed websites.
These facts lead many sourcers to conclude that limiting their search activities to one search engine or browser is a mistake.
