    The benefits of early and ongoing recognition are pretty clear from a psychological point of view. In fact, every video game I know uses them. In the beginning, rewards are easy to attain and motivation stays high, then as you become more proficient, they get a little harder to earn to make sure you stay challenged.

    We recently benchmarked “New Tech” companies. Mostly being startups and innovative companies in Silicon Valley.

    Leadership and communication come across very strongly. They were the standout themes. This concurs with most of your points. Similarly, perks were there, but not high on the list. So that definitely resonates with your comments on rewards.

    Perhaps one of the more standout items was that 50% of employees don’t expect to be at the company in 3 years time. We dug a little further into this here:
